Flores, gateway to Sunda Islands, stretches 450km long, 70 km wide and 10 km in its narrowest side.
Flores enjoys an exceptional wildlife, mountains offer us splendid panoramas with star-shaped rice fields. Its climate is varied, due to its very steep relief. Despite progress, Flores remains traditional in its customs. His national park of the islands of Komodo and its fabulous site of the volcano Kelimutu offer visitors all of its charm and character.
Welcome to Flores, a place full of culture and sensations. The adventure is just at the end of the path.

Les 4 Arbres (The 4 Trees) is a totally autonomous ecolodge providing its own fresh water and electricity. It offers two types of accommodations, individual rooms or bungalow (larger room with bathroom and terrace).
For budget oriented travelers, we provide tents with full sleeping. Campers are also welcome.
These guest rooms are built of wood, with teak furniture, simple and useful. At the end of this “road trail”, there is the 4 Arbres area, north of Flores. This cottage is located on the edge of a river that you can kayak down to the sea while admiring the fauna and flora.
This ecolodge is located between Pota and Riung in North Flores. Just 15 minutes East, on bicycle, you can enjoy the natural parks of Kelambu Bay, an entrance of 100 meters wide and 2.5 km long. Very nice coral wall for the snorklers.
This guest house also offers a French-Indonesian cuisine with bread, jam, cake and homemade ice-cream. We grow our own vegetables, and cook from garden to table.

This beautiful place has been in my radar for some time and I just got a chance to visit it recently. It started when I did weekend riding from Ruteng... read more to Nanga Lok in East Manggarai that took me around 4 hours. It was a long but easy ride with few unsealed roads. After a long ride with sun is up high in the sky i decided to head to 4 Pohon to try my luck if i could get a cold beer. Whoa! 140 km from Ruteng with no signal and relatively remote but i got what i want. No stop there, they also provide a la carte lunch, ice cream, cocktail, homemade spread and many. I spent my time to relax and enjoying the compound of the property, it is so green with many trees, spacious and private, self powered with solar PV and water from a well. I decided to spend night so I can enjoy the surrounding area like Watu Payung Beach, Rana Rugu Beach and Nanga Lok Hill when the sun is low. Worth it!!!! The road access to this place is under construction, it is now unsealed but compressed so no big issues for automatic scooter like Vario, Soul, Aerox, NMAX, PCX - you mention it. We may expect this road will be paved at the end of this year or next year at the latest. I booked this accommodation on spot but... I booked this accommodation on spot but if you want to book it in advance, you can drop a message to the owner, Olivier. Since there is no signal in this area yet, the owner will be checking the message in regular basis because the signal spot is 12 km toward east or 20 km west.
But don't worry, he will respond so give yourself enough buffer time before you visit.
I went here solo i was the only guest. I does not matter if you go solo or with friends this place will accommodate your interest. You can have your own space and time and you can have some fun with your friends.
Night sky is beautiful with full of starts, milkyway is easily spotted.
I had arak/grape ice cream - delicious one and they have several options, palm wine cocktail, squid, mixed veggies and of course cold beer.
I had outdoor shower under the stars and very good sleep.
It is a recommended place for your soul and to have private time.

07/06/2021I've never seen a place like that. In the middle of nowhere 4 Pohon is the perfect place to relax or to start your adventures. Everything is kept simple but... read more extraordinary at the same time (eg the shower under the tower). The owner family treats you as one of them and includes you at their dinner. You can perfectly relax, practice your slack line skills, take a walk on the property - it's huge - or start trekking or kayak tours.
Impressive is also, that they are mostly autonomous. They have their own chickens, grow their own vegetables, use the sun for electricity and the water from a well. A real eco lodge
We felt extremely welcome and well taken care of.
Not the right place for internet junkies though as you don't get a signal anywhere close. But we enjoyed the time offline a lot. More

Having a regular presence in Labuan Bajo (West Flores) since 2012, I had heard about the Frenchman who had an Eco Lodge deep in Flores. Having traveled through most of... read more west Flores for a number of years, this mythical lodge was becoming more and more of a unicorn to me...
My wife and myself were already planning a trans-flores camping trip with our 6 year old son and our faithful family dog when Corona hit and we had to put the trip on hold for just a little while - 4 Pohon was HIGH on the list of places to visit.
Things cooled off and we decided WE were OFF on a very shortened version of our trip. We packed the car, headed south from our home in Labuan Bajo to a spot we regularly camp at, then headed north again for Ruteng. After meeting friends there for a wonderful lunch, we continued North through areas of Flores we had never explored before.
The road from Ruteng to Reo(k) was as winding as all the other roads we expect to find through central Flores. - anyone who gets motion sickness must prepare themselves well. But, it's well worth it. As with every other spot I have traveled on this magnificent island, the mountains, rice fields, and even the winding roads themselves are a splendor of nature and human manipulation.
As we had left Ruteng later than planned, and finding that the road from Reo(k) to 4 Pohon wasn't in as good repair as the previous road, we arrived later than planned, just after 8pm. It was dark. And we still had an attempt to pitch.
Mr. Olivier - the owner of 4 Pohon - whom I had contacted previously to notify him the day we would arrive, put us at the front and guided me in to where we would camp. He was a very pleasant man kindly offered food and drink. We some simple but delicious local food, home made ice cream, and I even had Olivier's Arak - a very pleasant mix of local spirit, Lemon, local honey, and possibly something else. It was wonderful.
We retired early that evening.
The next day we awoke to a beautiful landscape surrounding us. Mountains and trees.
With the sun up, we were able to assess the premises much better. 4 Pohon is made up of a few buildings, a large water tower, and open spaces. We had a communal toilet block available to us which was simple but VERY clean, they consisted of western style (sitting) toilets, a fesh shower, a sink, and mirror.
There is also small rooms available and a shared terrace, and also a private 'cottage' with en-suite bathroom.
Another building was the dedicated kitchen, and another was the dedicated 'dinning' area.
Our hosts, Olivier and his wife Rensi, and their lovely daughter, all took care of us (and our dog!) and were an absolute pleasure to chat with. Their cooking was fantastic and their hospitality had no end.
Things to do:
There is a lovely river close by and Olivier has kayaks available if you're adventurous enough. I am told you can even start 5km upstream and head another 5km all the way to the ocean if you really wanted to. There is a tight rope setup, a swing, and you can climb the water tower or climb up a 'tree house'. Olivier is a keen adventurer and has set up some obstacles for motorbikes if you have an off-road bike. There is a nice beach not so far away as well if you wanted to take a bit of a ride. But this is a wonderful place to pull out a book and laze about in one of their hammocks or lay on a lounge bed and just enjoy nature.
As a family, we were super comfortable and as a backpacker there is plenty to see and do.
We highly recommend this little gem, found on the 'main' road between Reo(k) and Riung to anyone.
